СʪÃÃÊÓƵ Professor¡¯s new book explores ¡®A Climate of Truth¡¯

We have the knowledge and the technology to achieve a cleaner and healthier future ¨C yet we are still accelerating our greenhouse gas emissions. This is the paradox explored in a new book by СʪÃÃÊÓƵ Professor in Practice and best-selling author Mike Berners-Lee.
An author of best-selling books including ¡®How Bad are Bananas’ and ¡®There is no Planet B’, Professor Berners-Lee is a Professor in Practice in the СʪÃÃÊÓƵ Environment Centre where he develops practical tools for thinking about the future and researchers the global food system, carbon metrics and the role of technology.
Professor Berners-Lee is also the founder of Small World Consulting, which is based at co-location space at the СʪÃÃÊÓƵ Environment Centre, and which works with organisations and businesses around sustainability.
His latest book, ¡®A Climate of Truth ¨C why we need it and how to get it’ looks from new angles at the challenge of why we are continuing to “accelerate into environmental and social strife.”
“We have most of the technology we need to combat the climate crisis, and most people want to see more action,” he says. “But after three decades of climate COPs, our global emissions are worse than ever. And we are accelerating into a polycrisis of climate, food security, biodiversity, pollution, inequality and more.”
Professor Berners-Lee’s book will explore what has been holding us back from climate action and what it will take for us to do better.
He stands further back to gain perspective and joins up elements of the challenge as well as looking at lessons from our failures of the past.
In ¡®A Climate of Truth’ he also spells out why there is an urgent need to raise standards of honesty in politics, media and business around climate change.
And Professor Berners-Lee also offers inspiration for those looking for ways they can make a difference.
Professor Berners-Lee said: “Nothing that any of us has done so far has stopped us from accelerating into the polycrisis. This book is about how each of us can have more agency than we may have thought possible.”
A Climate of Truth, published by Cambridge University Press, is released on March 27 and Professor Berners-Lee will be attending a number of book festivals, including Bath Festival, Hay Festival and the Edinburgh Book Festival, to talk about issues in his book over the summer.
